Outdoor Photos at Winter Weddings

I looove a winter wedding - and I’m happy to wind up with frozen fingers if it means we had the opportunity to take outdoor photos! If you’re planning a fabulous winter soiree, here are a few tips and tricks to keep in mind when it comes to your photography plan for the day:

Protect Your Flowers

Much like humans, flowers are primarily made up of water, which means that freezing temps can cause them to go into hibernation mode. Based on what I’ve learned over the years, temps around 40 degrees Fahrenheit and above are typically safe for your florals, but if things get colder it’s best to keep them indoors.

Otherwise, consider taking them outside for photos after your ceremony, so that they’re equally beautiful for both parts of the day.

Make the Most of Your Wardrobe

If you’re rocking a long wedding gown (or bridesmaid dress!), don’t be afraid to add layers under your frock! I promise that no one will be able to tell you’re wearing fleece-lined leggings and warm boots - they’ll just be impressed you braved the cold weather to get some great photos.

Use Accessories to Stay Warm

A classic peacoat and scarf can give your groom’s look a classy edge, while a faux-fur wrap elevates a bride’s overall look in a winter wonderland. Also, consider gifting your bridal party scarves or faux-fur wraps that will both keep them warm and make for fun images.
